Three lines of research are being pursued in Katja Doerschner's lab: Human visual perception of surface qualities, machine vision, and genetic influences on human visual system development and functioning. Specific topics include the perception of surface color and gloss under varying illumination, perception of shininess and rigidity from motion, detection of specular objects in scenes, analysis of spatiotemporal properties of moving textures, and assessment of visual functions in patients with cortical pachygyria.  The group utilises a broad range of methods including computer graphics, signal and image processing, psychophysics, and various MR imaging techniques.
