I got my BEng in Mechanical Engineering and Automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. My undergraduate project involved processing the Acoustic Emission signals to recognise tool conditions in manufacturing. In 2013, I gained my MSc (Distinction) in Robotics at King’s College London. Under the supervision of Dr Michael Spratling, I implemented a stereo version of a neural network V1 model for solving the correspondence problem. The stereo V1 model works well in modelling the responses of primary visual cortex (V1) cells when perceiving stimuli from complex artificial scenes such as random-dot stereograms. In the PRISM project, I will be studying the basic factors of material qualities, developing a novel method to measure perceptual qualities of real materials and identifying what optical cues could indicate material qualities.
