Welcome to the new PRISM website!

28 Jun 2013

We’ve moved over from the previous incarnation on Google Sites so we can add more features—like this Blog—to make the site more useful for consortium members and visitors.

Coming up in October, we have our second network meeting, PRISM2: The science of light and shade, in Bordeaux, France.  This is the first meeting that’s open to external participants, and we’re looking forward to some intense interdisciplinary discussions as we bring together researchers from psychology, neuroscience and computer science to talk about how shape, shading and materials interact.  We have some excellent speakers lined up, and there’ll be soft skills training courses in the evenings.  If you’re interested in taking part, the deadline is end of August: more details here.

Thanks a million to Pascal Barla and Laetitia Grimaldi who have put a lot of work into organizing the meeting!

I’m also really excited that Jan Jaap Van Assen has recently joined my lab as a PRISM-funded ESR (EU code for a PhD student).  At the moment he’s getting to grips with fluid simulation and we’ve already run our first pilot studies on how perceived viscosity varies over time as liquids flow and splash around in scenes.

I hope you find the new site useful… Feel free to send us your comments and suggestions.
